Dennis & Anne French

Dennis French is a Rochester native and has been a musician all his life.  Beginning in his teenage years, he played Rock and Roll evolving to his country music days, being inducted into the NH Country Music Hall of Fame in 1991.  About 10 years ago, a great friend of his said-You need to buy a dobro and play Bluegrass Music - it is so much fun!!  Dennis bought a dobro and the rest is history.
His wife Ann, started playing guitar when she was just 6 years old and always loved Country Music.  She set the guitar aside in her teen years, but when she was a Senior in High School, she made her first debut at a talent show at her school.  She met Dennis, they married and he encouraged her to start a Country Music band hence Dixie Rose Band was formed.  They played throughout the area for 8 years sticking to Traditional Country Music.  Then when Dennis made the “leap” to bluegrass, she followed and together they started the band now known as DixieGrass.
Dennis always welcomes the opportunity to play in his hometown.
Come sit under a shade tree and enjoy a couple hours of great music.

Long Journey

Carolyn Hutton grew up in North Carolina in an old time gospel tradition, singing with her family at little country churches and tent shows.  She married, moved to this area and raised four children. A chance encounter with Mac McHale and the Old Time Radio Gang in 2003 inspired her to go back to her roots.  She played mandolin in a 4-women band called Bliss, until forming a partnership with Mac McHale in an old time country and gospel duet, Taylor’s Grove.  She and Paul Mangion now both perform in Drowned Valley, a local bluegrass group that got its start as “Silver and Central” at First Parish Church of Dover.
Paul Mangion first heard the music of the southern mountains as a student in 1964. He took up clawhammer banjo in 1973 and, after moving to the Seacoast, helped start up The Last Chance String Band. In 1988 he began to play percussion in a zydeco band, The Crawdad Wranglers, as well as many of the local Irish sessions. After retirement, he returned to his first love, the banjo, and started singing with Carolyn in 2011.
